American Legion Auxiliary History

Founded in 1919 the American Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's patriotic service organization.  After the formation of The American Legion a number of women's organizations wanted to become an official affiliate of The American Legion.  A committee agreed and formed the American Legion Auxiliary, to be made up of women who were closely associated with the men of The American Legion, women who had served faithfully during the war and would continue to serve The American Legion in peace.  Champeau-Vilandre American Legion Auxiliary Unit 109 was charter in 1947 with 73  charter members.
